Picture the first event that comes to your mind, that happened to you, to which you truly would say the words “what a coincidence”.
Something that looked like it happened completely by chance. On one specific day, on one specific occasion, the heavens dictated, the stars aligned, the winds whispered, the right people were at exactly the right places at the exactly right times to do exactly the right things.
Next, I want you to make an estimate, off the top of your head, of the mathematical probability of that specific event occurring. Nothing rigorous: simply a rough estimate, a percentage. The chances of those specific circumstances coming together.
Your estimate would be something like “once in a million”, perhaps? One in 1000, to be optimistic? Or maybe “once in a blue moon”, to be slightly less statistical. The more intricate the event, the less likely to happen, in theory.
The average human life is 28,000 days long. So you would think that, in order for such an event to happen, you’d be extremely lucky if it happened once to you, during your own lifetime. Likewise, you’d be uniquely blessed if such two events (of similar probabilities) happened to you during your lifetime.
Yet these events happen all the time.
Reality is not random, (sorry Richard Dawkins, mother nature is not delusional). Events are bound by meaning, a meaning that relates to what happens behind the curtains, so to speak. To refer the most ‘visible’ and glaring of such events it’s often used the term synchronicity.
In this sense reality works very much like in the Matrix movie, and that’s exactly why watching it was such a meaningful experience. It conveyed the holographic nature of our physical world.
Examples of synchronicity would be a random conversation between passersby that appear to address your own inner questions; sequences of events that completely escape a daily routine and lead you to unexpected new circumstances; or a music in the radio that accompanies a unique moment you’re living. Events that occur and co-incide together, related by meaning rather than ‘visible’ cause.
You’ll observe that the real frequency at which seemingly unlikely events happen in life far exceeds the ‘theoretical’, statistical probability of their occurrence, from the perspective that reality is entirely random.
Synchronicity is something that can experienced at any time, by you, by anyone, without any cost or effort. However, in order to experience and appreciate it fully, you do need to be open to it. If you don’t believe it, you won’t see it. As with most spiritual experiences, the proof is in the pudding.
But when you do experience it, it’s a phenomenon by which you can clearly perceive, in true Matrix-like fashion, how illusory the physical world is.
This article aims to explain how synchronicity works, and to provide a list of simple and practical steps for you to receive synchronistic messages on a day-to-day basis.
Synchronicity as a Source of Guidance
A textbook example of synchronicity is when you happen to see a pattern of numbers or letters, such as looking at the clock and seeing 11:11 or 12:12. Such a sequence may also keep appearing to you for a period of time. For example, later that day you’d see a license plate in a passing car that reads abc-1212. A synonym of synchronicity is ‘coincidence’.
Synchronicity – especially these kind of events that catch your eye – is arranged by your spiritual team, by manipulating physical reality around you.It’s a validation that they are with you, making these things happen. Also, in the example given, they could be trying to tell you something in particular with that repeating 12-12 sequence. You can then attempt to understand what that meaning would be.
Sequences may validate choices you are to make, or refer to events in the future. They may also have a degree of common “universal” meanings, such as I describe in my article about meanings. Thus, synchronicity is not only a means to peek beyond reality, but also to receive guidance.
Different types of communicating with Spirit guides include thought, intuition, feelings, up to the more complex abilities and techniques, such as seeing angels, or astral projection, for example. These may depend upon special gifts or special circumstances, and may require training, commitment, and spiritual “getting used to”.
However, synchronicity has this wonderful trait of only requiring you to be looking at stuff.
This is the “advantage” (if you will) of synchronicity as a tool: it doesn’t require any special conscious state on your part: you just have to be open to it, and paying attention. Thus, numbers and symbol sequences are a great method for your spirit guides to speak frequently to you.
Remember synchronicity only applies if it’s spontaneous. Waiting for the 11:11 to appear on the clock doesn’t count. You have to genuinely be surprised and not expect it coming. Or at least, there needs to be a degree of unpredictability to you. When you’re having a dialogue with someone, you don’t control the other person’s words, reactions, and thoughts. And you (generally) listen when the other person speaks. It’s the same with synchronicity, and any other kind of guidance: you have to allow yourself to be talked to by Spirit.
When Does Synchronicity Happen?
In truth, synchronicity isn’t only about these specific messages. Technically all events in life are synchronistic, from the most important events down to the minute details. From the most vital crossroads decision points in life — meeting significant people, making life-altering choices — down to the time of the day when you go to bed, when to write your email.
All events and happenings exist on a patterned “grid” of potentials, just as I explained in Free Will vs Destiny: Which Is It?. This means it’s not possible for any event to exist outside of that grid, or in other words, to be completely random and devoid of significance.
This is not to say that absolutely everything is extremely important and you have to keep track of everything obsessively. There are degrees of randomness, or unpredictability, to events, and varying degrees of importance. Finding your soul-mate is more important than, say, finding a coin on the ground. The ability to relax and detach is as important as the habit of being attentive.
Still, generally speaking, nothing is 100% random.
And on this grid of potentials, Spirit can clearly perceive anything about your life path, from each and every small detail, all the way to the top overview on your existence. So your spirit guides can assist you, with just as much dedication, both with your major life decisions, and with choosing which shampoo to buy at the supermarket.
For this reason it’s a sound strategy to be open to synchronicity and spiritual messages at all times. Not only will it assist you in carrying out your life, but it will help you realize that every inch of your existence is carefully planned and cared for.
The following is a list of guidelines to help you improve your experience with synchronicity, in your own life and daily routines.
1. Choose a Medium With a High Refresh Rate
At the time I was still working at my job, at some point I became aware that synchronistic messages were showing up everywhere to me: digital clocks, addresses, documents, and so forth. So I decided that a great place for making synchronistic symbol sequences appear would be car license plates.
I wanted to experience more. To see how far it would go. Because there are plenty of cars driving down the streets (high refresh rate) and I was driving myself for a considerable portion of my everyday life (more opportunity), this was an excellent medium for synchronistic messages.
Needless to say, one should be careful to keep attention on car license plates while driving, keeping safety as a priority. But one can always see parked cars walking in the street. It’s a very common element in an urban environment.
Sure enough, I started receiving number and letter sequences through car license plates. One time I stopped in a red light and I was surrounded with cars with the numbers 47 or 74 all around me.
This was one of the very first experiences I had. I remember it took a little while to sink in, that all cars around me had those numbers in their plates.
You are part of this. This is for you. You can stipulate, or propose, ways on how and what messages appear to you. You can decide on your preferences. You can decide on what meanings certain sequences, numbers, letters, symbols, have. More on this in a moment.
Your decisions and wants may be aligned with your guides decisions, because your energies are mixed together, so these preferences may reflect what your spiritual team wants also.
2. The Next Step: Expanding on Meanings
From this point forward you can take this experience to the next level.
Rather than seeing synchronicity simply as a metaphysical novelty — albeit one that is truly fantastic — you have the opportunity to use it as an active two-way communication with your guidance team.
It becomes much more than magic: it becomes a tool.
This is why I’m writing this text. Ultimately, synchronicity is as much as a philosophical theme as it is a practical instrument. Using this instrument is to come very close to Spirit, in a very personal and intimate way.
There are more or less general, “established“ systems of meanings for number sequences in particular, which draw mostly from numerology, the energy of the human chakras, and so forth. Thus, a 0 (the zero) generically means the fulfillment of a cycle, the state of completion, the totality, God itself, and unconditional love; a 1 (one) represents the beginning, new beginnings, insight, thought, and also matter and material safety. And so forth. Furthermore, a sequence with 1s (ones), such as “1111″ will have, presumably, the more impact the more the digit repeats itself in it.
But, at the same time, meanings are very personal, very particular to you. For example, every time I see a while butterfly, I know Spirit is referring to my mother specifically — even if the white butterfly may have more “generic” meanings, such as representing peace, happiness, or good outcomes, for example. With letters in particular you have a little more leeway in defining meanings.
A very straightforward example of mine are the letters “TU”, which in Portuguese directly translates to “You”. So every time I perceive a sequence involving TU, I know it refers to me directly. Another example are the letters “GG” and “BG”, meaning Good Game and Big Game respectively — a meaning from competitive video gaming, where the defeated player congratulates the winning one with the message “GG” at the end if a game. In my case GG and BG do not carry the energy of defeat, but they do congratulate for going through a challenging situation.
These arrangements, again, are made between you and your own guides. Of course, feel free to set whatever meanings for you that you find elsewhere, for your convenience.
The day I took the decision to leave my job, I was walking down the street alone, at lunch time, and the enormity of the decision I had just made hit me. What had I just done? A wave of doubt swept over me. And I asked “my guides, if you’re there, please let me know if I made the right choice”. A few steps down the street I notice a truck and a car on the road, starting side-by-side from a red light, at the same speed, both with GGs in their plates.

Still, remember to get what you’re receiving actually means to you. What you asked and what you thought in your mind. Learn to get what they are saying.
3. Asking Questions and Receiving Answers
One day I was having serious trouble figuring out what I was supposed to do in life. What was I doing wrong. Again this was while still working at my job, but starting to be more and more aware of Spirit.
At the end of that day I came home, and not being able to cope with the bad, unsettling feeling I had been enduring all day, I immediately got out again, with the intent of driving somewhere else.
My house was next to a fire station. In front of this fire station, there was a large ramp between the station’s fire truck doors and the main road. I got in my car, which was on the other side of the street, and just before starting it, I happened to notice that for some reason there were two civilian cars parked in the ramp. These two cars had the plates 44-DP-77 and 44-??-77 (?? — can’t remember the letters). The cars weren’t of the same brand, or even the same manufacture year. But there they there, facing me and spelling a message with their plates.
By that point my guides had been sending me quite a few sequences, and I had been figuring out some meanings for patterns of the messages. So I had my own coding for these numbers. And they were:
44 — heart, hearth, grounding, protection, love and passion
77 — doing everything okay, good job, alignment with Spirit, Spirit’s level, Spiritual Truth
The message spelled by the plates was as follows: first follow your inner passion (44); and then (DP) everything will be ok and aligned with Spirit (77).
(DP stands for ‘depois’ in Portuguese, which means ‘after‘.)
This was a direct answer from my Spirit Guides to my question: what should I be doing? And a profoundly uplifting one. I had to follow my passions from the heart.
For the first time ever I received a teaching or lesson, not from another human, but from Spirit directly. No intermediaries, no hidden agendas, no human beliefs, no uncertainty. I felt it inside.
This was groundbreaking to me. I always felt dependent from others who supposedly knew better and would to tell me what to do. So this was like a liberation, an independence day.
4. Moving to Other Means
Since your energy manifests your reality, external synchronistic events have to go through your energy. They work a little as if you’re “channeling”, or performing creative work. What does this mean?
If you see a license plate, a number on the clock, if your guides nudge your eyes to have you look at something, this had to happen through you, through your own energy. And it’s is further reinforced by your conscious intention for it to happen.
Your intention dictates what happens in your reality.
Try this: place a question to Spirit, either silently or out loud. Relate to it emotionally. And now, pick a deck of cards — of any kind — and draw a card from it. Use your “feeling” or whatever impulse you have to choose the card. Even if you’re not knowledgeable of any divination techniques, the card will be an answer to your question, simply because that’s what you asked. Your intention and awareness allowed it to happen.
Your intention allowed Spirit to come through the event of you choosing a card. This is the principle by how divination works. If you threw the cards on the ground and one of them faced upwards, that too could be your answer, if that’s what you wished for.
As with co-creating via Law of Attraction, this is a game of both active intent and passive allowance.
Experiment. You may try picking multiple cards and see if they form a sentence, or a message of sorts. Sense how you feel by touching different cards before turning/choosing them. You can grab an object and see if anything comes to your mind. You can observe how fallen hair in the bathtub creates specific forms. You can receive messages from any small element of your daily life.

Play with your intuition. Some of these things may work for you, others may not. Spirit may wish to tell you a single thing using just one card. It all depends on what you’ve asked, and the answer to it. Remember they also have minds of their own. They may not answer how you’d expect them to. They often don’t.
You are establishing a dialogue. And like with any dialogue, you can agree to it, undertake it, explore it. They can propose things to you, and you to them. You are literally arranging the protocol.
5. Building on the Contact
Synchronicity consists only on messages from the Light.
“From the Light” means from your spiritual team, which serves strictly and exclusively 100% of your highest Soul intent and interests, and nothing else.
These are the messages you can, and should, trust. How can you be sure? If it’s synchronistic, it’s like this by definition. Only your spirit guides can affect your reality like this.
Of course, it is possible to get a little too much obsessive with watching every single number and letter that goes by your eyes. The “degree” of attention you pay to this is strictly to your discretion. The ideal approach would be to keep an aware mind, while at the same time avoiding fretting over receiving messages. An “active allowing”, or “passive awareness”, if you will.
The point of all of this is that your spirit guides are real, and you are invited to establish communication with them directly.
Learn to feel them, face them as real beings, with very specific intentions and behavior. If you get it, Spirit will never again be an impersonal entity, on a web page, or inside the temple, but right there next to you, affected to you, there for you.
Now that you’ve got an “easy” means of communication, you can and should use it to its full potential. This means not merely facing it as a novelty, as a fascinating yet isolated phenomenon, but instead using it to ask specific, important questions, and get answers and insights on them.
Why am I feeling this way?
Why is not my life moving forward?
Why is this relationship not working?
What should I be doing?
These are the profound questions that need answers.
So, ask them. When there’s a challenging situation you don’t like, ask away. Ask the hard questions about your emotional and personal life. The ones that are close to your heart and to your feelings.
Those are the questions you should ask the most, and the ones Spirit would most be willing to answer.
